Bill is currently the President of the Triangle Rails to Trails Conservancy, the primary advocacy and volunteer trail maintenance group

for the American Tobacco Trail in the Durham-Raleigh area of North

Carolina. He currently serves on the boards of the East Coast Greenway, the Triangle Greenways Council, Jordan Lake Trails Conservation Association the Chatham Parks Foundation and others. Bill

got started in nonprofit database design and maintenance in 1982 while

serving in several positions, including as a longtime member of the

Board of Governors, in the National Speleological Society.
