Changing and edit TYPE and MAIL settingsI have been working at setting up ODB for our museum to track Donor's and Members. I have read and reread the users guide and I believe it tells me I can change/edit/add the TYPE fields, but for the life of me I can not find a way to do it using the ADMIN function. I have looked at the actual template file, and see how I could change and delete those entries there, but before I start doing that, I wanted to know if it could be done using the ADMIN function like you can do with the ACTIVITIES, ISSUES, SOURCE etc. items. I want to change the following items. If I change the template file, then I have to start over with creating a new database, and importing everything again. I have also tried to figure out how to use the issuelabel, activitylabel, and the other button customization functions and they do not change anything that is displayed. I notice they are not documented in the users guide, but they do retain whatever it is I set them to. Any help if these issues would be greatly appreciated. In the template files I see entries for functions called ProjType, OID, and Methods. I do not see where these items are displayed in the program. Here are sample entries so you know what exactly I am refering to. Where are these items displayed, and how are they used? Last, is there a list of all the fields that can be imported into? I have been trying to import data from another application, and one field that comes to mind is middle initial which is in a unique field for my import, but the import funtion of ODB does not have that field listed. I suspect there are other fields that could be imported into as well that are not listed. I'm perfectly capable of editing the importlist text file to customize the import. So far I have placed all the extra fields into the comments area, but that is going to take a rather large database cleanup effort to fix little things like missing middle initial etc. Tom |
Solved most of the problems
Solved most of the problems I was having when I discovered these tiems are part of group display. Also discovered that TYPE does show up in the "advanced Search" and I was just overlooking it.
Edit TYPE categories
Tom, I have the same issue you mentioned. I don't know how to actually change the categories that display under TYPE. While the manual says it can be done, it does not tell me how to do it and there is no "admin" button for it.
Any help out there?

Hi Claire -
There is a glitch in the manual. While Page 31 of the PDF (the 2nd page of the ODB customization guide) explains how to customize codes, the paragraph on type and payment categories neglects to say where you change these. I am making a note of this and we will change it in the next version of the manual.
The next paragraph on subcategories and appeal codes does explain that you need to go into Advanced search to see those buttons (type and payment) -- which is the way you will need to do it.
There is no way to modify the mailcodes after creating a database, at present -- except to edit the file in Access or Open Office base.
