Small Fixes for ODB 1.0.2

After the 1.0.2 release, we have discovered three issues which may affect users of this version. Fixes will be available in the next full release.

However, if these issues are important to you, you can fix them now!

ISSUE 1: Missing search fields
The Advanced Search window in ODB 1.0.1 was missing 2 fields in the People area of the search window, fields that were available in versions 0.9 and 1.0. The missing fields are: Last Gift Date and Membership Expiration Date.

Fix:
If you download version 1.0.2 from our web site again and install it you will see that the fields have been restored. We made the change on April 27. Sorry about the inconvenience!

ISSUE 2: Can no longer open up notes
The conversion utility for ODB version 1.0.2 failed to add a new field called "NoteDate" that is used by the Notes feature of ODB 1.0.2. Though no one has reported this yet, this could cause a runtime error when you open an existing note.

Fix:
If you experience this error, please download and run the corrected ODB 1.0.2 conversion utility, which is included as an attachment to this blog post. If you have just one installation of ODB, you just run it. If you have multiple installations, be sure to put the utility in the folder where odb.exe is located for the installation you want to update. The utility was last updated at 10am Eastern Time on 5/1/07.

ISSUE 3: Turning 'Check for New Versions' On or Off
The conversion utility for ODB version 1.0.2 modified the name of the field 'disableautocheck', changing it to 'enableautocheck'. We did this because many users experienced problems with the software freezing for 30 seconds due to firewalls when it did an 'autocheck' for a new ODB version. This new name is a bit easier to understand and the behavior of ODB was altered so that 'false' means that checking is disabled.

The setting is located in the second section of the Settings area, titled 'Backups/Lookups'. It is on the second tab, titled 'Lookups'.

Fix:
The problem is that the conversion utility did not alter the caption and tooltips that describe the setting. Thus, the settings area said it was set to the opposite of what it was. To fix this, download the new conversion utility as described under Fix 2. (We will reenable auto-checking for new versions once we have fully tested a new HTTP method of downloading ODB updates.)
